I am not a sports photographer per se but I love taking pictures of sporting events. If you don’t carry a press pass you are disadvantaged or poorly positioned to take stunning shots from good angles. Nevertheless, I have done my best over the years and you can see some of the results here. The acrobatic basketball ones were taken at the Budadunk festival in 2019, the Olympic photos in Beijing in 2008, the tennis images were partly taken at a fun loving senior tennis players’ show, the open air ones at an ATP 500 tournament in Budapest.
The air race photos were shot above the Danube and at Lake Balaton, the running race pictures were framed on the Danube embankment.
I used an 80-400/4.5-5.6 Nikkor lens on my D 7000 at the Olympic Games. This lens has a really slow focus and I doubt many people use it today as there are far better ones for this genre. Yet if you like my Olympics photos it proves again that equipment is secondary to catching the moment.
